ESDAA TOURNAMENT
The Bisons travelled to Trenton , NJ for the 57th Annual DII ESDAA -Eastern Schools for the Deaf of Athletic Association for the basketball tournament. SMSD was seeded number one, so they got a “bye” on Friday and did not have to play.
Our first game was against Rochester School for the Deaf on Saturday evening. Michael Norris sprained his ankle late in the third period. Michael stands 6’8” tall and has a huge impact on the games. Ramah Aldeen and DiOvanny Lacen took turns playing in Michael ‘s position and did a great job! DiOvanny fouled out early in the 4th quarter, leaving the Bisons’ bench empty! Ramah also had foul trouble, with 4 fouls, leaving Farhad Ghorbani, Yaser Abdullahi , Ifeanyi Nwabueze, and Dalton Burlingame with double the load of work! Farhad shifted into high gear, scoring 13 points, leading the Bisons to the final buzzer and a win...39 to 26.
Sunday afternoon, the championship game was between the Bisons and the Trojans of New York State School for the Deaf in Rome, NY. Both teams battled and traded baskets. Michael Norris, a senior who didn’t want to miss the championship game, played through his ankle injury. Michael showed up and controlled the rebounds and made some great shots. Michael scored 26 points! Michael also had an advantage of rebounding and getting the ball to Farhad Ghorbani and Yaser Abdollahi. They led the fast break, which gave the Bisons a solid lead! The Bisons hosted The Gow School Ravens JV yesterday. We lost to them two weeks ago, but maximized our strength and had our entire team. We were able to walk away with a victory! Every Bison got the opportunity to play once we had a solid lead. In the second half, the Bisons kept up the pressure and won…54 to 34 ! DiOvanny Lacen scored 20 points to lead the team. The Bisons are preparing the rest of this week for the ESDAA tournament in New Jersey. Wish us luck!!

The Bisons took on the GOW Ravens with only 8 players off the roster. With three starters who were out sick, the Bisons tried to find a way to work together. It was a difficult task, however, since we lacked their experience. The Ravens managed to keep the lead from the tip off and finished the game with the score of 50 to 39. Michael Norris led the team with 20 points. Our next game will be at SMSD next week on Tuesday. Stop at Gallagher Gym and show your support!! Hope to see you there!

Central Baptist came to the Bisons tonight. The Bisons were missing a few players and our bench had to step up. We struggled to find any rhythm and made too many turnovers. Central Baptist was left with a victory... 38 to 49. Our next game is away at Gow this Thursday. We will use practice tomorrow as an opportunity to work out and reduce the unnecessary errors .

The Bisons travelled to West Seneca Christian School to face the Falcons. The skills of both teams were comparable. From the tip off to the last few seconds, each team traded leads in the score. With only 10 seconds left, the Bisons took the lead...43-42 . After a time out, the Bisons had possession of the ball. The Falcons tried to foul but the game ended with a Bison victory... 43-42! The Bisons travelled to Falk yesterday. We struggled to compete with them in the first half. The second half was different, and we played better and chipped away at their lead. The Bisons had many opportunities but just couldn’t get the ball in the basket. We committed too many turnovers too. The final was a loss…. 57 to 27 . Among the squad, Michael Norris finished with 17 points . Ramah Aldeen showed great defense and worked hard. Saul Alvira, Farhad Ghorbani and Yaser Abdollahi each gave great hustle.

After a week of practice after coming back from Christmas vacation, we lost to New Life Christian. We couldn’t compete against the stronger New Life team. The final score was 54 to 23. We hope this game helps better for our next game tomorrow at Falk. Please give some support to those boys to lift their spirits!

The Bisons travelled to Rochester School for the Deaf for the I-90 Classic. SMSD Herd had the height and strength advantage over the Rochester Wildcats. They were able to use these qualities to control the game. Michael Norris had the upper hand on rebounds and inside shots and led all scorers with 27 points. Yaser Abdullah’s and Ifeanyi Nwabueze defensively helped keep the Wildcats from getting any free shots off. Saul Alivira and Di’ Ovanny Lacen also made it difficult by shutting down the lanes to the basket. Their excellent teamwork led them to victory over the Wildcats…. 45 to 26 !

The Bisons hosted Falk yesterday and they outmatched us by speed, strength, and skills. However, the Bisons didn’t relinquish and fought hard all the way as this game was our first varsity to varsity compared to our first two JV games. The squad struggled emotionally but they managed to stay focused on the game. Unfortunately, our offense didn’t make the baskets enough to catch up and ended up in a loss, 22 to 45 .
Our next game will be I-90 classic against Rochester School for the Deaf as we travel to their school next week on Wednesday. When you get the chance, wish them luck!
