ESDAA TOURNAMENT at Ohio School for Deaf Friday, 11/4/22-11/15/22

11/4/22 the Lady Bisons started their 2022 volleyball tournament with round robin play. They started in a 2-set match against Delaware School for the Deaf. The girls' nerves and the "newness" of a tournament left them unsure on their feet. The girls struggled to hold their own but they fell quickly in both sets.

The second game was against WPSD. The girls came in more confident and hustled across the floor.  Some quick plays and fast saves helped the girls inch up the score board but in the end they couldn't pull ahead. They again fell in 2 sets against WPSD. Round robin and bracket play will continue tomorrow at OSD.

11/5/22 The Lady Bisons started day two of the tournament with more bracket play. We started our morning in two sets against a combined RSD/NJ team. The girls had something to prove this morning and went in strong, ready for a win. The first set sailed by quickly earning the girls their first tournament set win! In the second set, over confidence was our biggest combatant and ended in our downfall. This left us 1-1 against the RSD/NJ team.

In the afternoon, after a long reprieve, we started at the secondary location against the Lexington school in our last round robin game. The girls were hungry for a full win and zeroed in on Lexington as their last chance. With some impeccable serving from Isabella Centinello-Perez in the first set and some beautiful cooperation from all the girls in the second, we were able to finish our first full tournament game win.

After a break to set the brackets and final seeds, we found out we had made it to the gold bracket!  We finished the round robin play, landing us in 6th place overall and set to play against the home team, OSD.

In our first game in the main gym, we were worried that the home fans would bring back our nerves from yesterday. The girls buckled down and tried to focus on getting their passes in. Emilylynn Spillman and Elianna Sanders had one swing each and some beautiful saves on the floor. Zarielle Ormsby covered the whole floor, but sometimes this led to miscommunications and incomplete plays. Julieraye Drabant showed just how much she had learned this year and added some beautiful passes. Isabella Centinello-Perez added two more swings to her stats and Briona Zuppa had several beautiful assists at the net in her LAST volleyball game of her SMSD career.

Unfortunately, bad passes and missed opportunities led to our 2-0 loss to OSD. Over all, the girls did an amazing job and should be so proud of their first tournament. They will only improve as time goes on and we can't wait to see what they do next year. Thank you to everyone who supported us this season and who will continue to do so in the future.

The Lady Bisons took on The Park School in their final game of the season. The girls were hungry for a second chance after falling in a close battle the last time. The girls started out strong, taking the first set, but struggled to keep the momentum going through the rest of the game. Briona Zuppa led the team with 24 serves and Zarielle Ormsby and Isabella Centinello-Perez each contributed 11 serves. Emilylynn Spillman added another 3 hits to her stats and Zarielle added another 2. Emilylynn and Zarielle also covered the entire team on defense, racking up assists and truly throwing their bodies into each save.

With their official season now over, the girls are focused on their final challenge, the ESDAA tournament which will be happening this weekend at Ohio School for the Deaf. Please wish the girls good luck as they attempt their first ever tournament together.

The Lady Bisons took on CAWNY for the first time ever in volleyball yesterday afternoon. After coming off a win on Tuesday, the girls were feeling overly confident about this game. They quickly realized this was not going to be the same kind of game, and struggled to keep composure through the first half. However, the girls were able to rally in the second half and finished in a much stronger set. Captain, Briona Zuppa led the team with 13 serves, 3 aces and floor support for some of our younger players. Zarielle Ormsby earned 1 hit and 1 kill during the game. Emilylynn Spillman earned 2 hits and 1 kill. Elliana Sanders and Isabella Centinello-Perez made some amazing saves off the net and each served 8 points during the game. JulieRaye Drabant made her first full game debut, and managed a few good returns. The next chance to support the girls will be Thursday, October 20th

The Lady Bisons took on West Seneca Christian for the second time this season. After coming in straight off  of a four-day weekend, we weren’t sure if the girls would be able to focus on the skills we'd been drilling into them. However, we were pleasantly surprised when the girls pulled off three straight sets.  Aubrey Krieger and JulieRaye Drabant were given a chance to play most of the game and gained some great experience ahead of the tournament. Zarielle Ormsby and Isabella Centinello- Perez covered the court and supplied backup for the entire game. Their defensive skills are the glue that held the girls together. Elliana Sanders and Emilylynn Spillman demonstrated their setting prowess and made some key saves later in the game. The girls will take on CAWNY at home for the first time this Thursday.

The Lady Bisons took on Central Baptist for the third time this year. The ladies went in hungry and ready to prove they'd improved since the beginning of the season. Much like our last match against Central Baptist, this was a real serving game. Briona Zuppa earned 18 service points, Zarielle Ormsby earned 13 service points, Isabella Centinello-Perez earned 12 service points and Elliana Sanders earned her first kill of the season. All the girls communicated and cooperated to earn a very close 2 out of 3 win over the lady lions. Please congratulate the girls on a win well earned.

The Lady Bisons took on New Life Christian for the first time this season. The girls played hard, showing their improved ball handling skills throughout the game. However, the fast-paced return volleys and a few tough servers made it hard for the girls to keep their heads. The girls game at the net has definitely improved, with Emilylynn Spillman and Isabella Centinello-Perez showing their setting skills, helping teammates Kearah Kelly, Zarielle Ormsby and Emilylynn Spillman rack up 2 more attack points each. Kearah Kelly came in as our top server of the game with 14 serves and Ellianna Sanders, Briona Zuppa and JulieRaye Drabant all contributed on the floor. Each game we learn a little bit more and show off what we can do. Our next game is next week, Tuesday, when we travel back to Central Baptist and hope the third time is the charm.

The Lady Bisons took on The GOW School yesterday afternoon in a pretty evenly matched game. The girls hustled the entire game trying to pull off another win but fell short in the end. Isabella Centinello-Perez was feeling fierce at the net, earning herself her first ever attacking point as well as leading the team in serves (16 points). Zarielle Ormsby racked up 1 kill, 1 attack and 7 service points. Elliana Sanders, Kearah Kelly and Emilylynn Spillman were all over the floor on defense,  digging and diving to keep the ball in play. Overall, the girls played a great game but couldn’t seem to catch up to The GOW girls each match. Our next game is this Thursday at home against New Life Christian. Please come out and support our girls in their next match.

The Lady Bisons took on West Seneca Christian tonight at home. After two losses in a row, the girls were hungry for a win and couldn’t wait to take on a new team.  Brionna Zuppa went on a serving streak in all three sets, racking up 10, 11, and 7 points in each set, leading to a total of 28 service points in total. Kearah Kelly and Zarielle Ormsby both broke out a new overhand serve in the game, earning 8 and 6 points respectively. Elianna Sanders got her first kill of the season and rookies Isabella Centinello-Perez, Aubrey Krieger and JulieRaye Drabant all had a considerable amount of time on the court.

This was definitely a serving game and, because the girls kept their composure and cooperated, they took home their first win of the season, sweeping 3 full sets.

If you see the girls tomorrow, make sure to congratulate them on a game well played.

The Lady Bisons took on Central Baptist for the second time this season. After regrouping and reviewing our first loss, the girls were excited to really show what they could do. While the girls hustled throughout the game, they couldn't quite pull ahead and fell in three straight sets.

Zarielle Ormsby had her first kill of the season and Elianna Sanders had her first attack. Aubrey Krieger played in her first varsity game and made a critical save at the net. Briona Zuppa, Kearah Kelly and EmilyLynn Spillman all contributed on the serving line.

The ladies will take on CAWNY this Thursday at 4:30. Wish them luck!
