Junior NAD

 

 

Jr.NAD (Junior National Association of the Deaf) offers students the opportunity to develop leadership skills, learn, and interact with other deaf schools from across the country. Jr.NAD focuses on attitude, commitment, leadership skills and cooperation.  The organization helps our students become future leaders and advocates in the deaf community.

 

The group has monthly meetings and participates in many community service activities and fundraisers.

Junior NAD Members Attend Conference in California

 

From November 18th to 22nd, members of Junior NAD traveled to California School for the Deaf-Riverside for the Jr.NAD conference. Suada Abdulkadir and Jacob Rhoades were chosen as the delegates to go from SMSD. There were 26 different deaf schools that attended conference from all over the country. During the conference they learned about leadership, Parliamentary procedures, and worked on goals for their futures. They met many new friends. They went to many different workshops and met very important deaf people who taught the students tools to become leaders in the classroom and beyond. They also participated in team building activities, special projects (ASL entertainment and round table-debates) also watched Jr.NAD pageants. Suada and Jacob represented SMSD proudly and came away from the  conference with a lot of new knowledge and tools to use. Advisor Sean Maloney also attended the trip with the students and was extremely proud of how they handled themselves and worked cooperatively with all the other schools.
