The herd is on the move!!! The Bisons welcomed Elmwood Franklin back to Bosco Gym for another intense game. Elmwood Franklin had a quick start and took an early lead in the first few minutes of the game. While Kioney Alvira-Jurado was able to put back some rebounds to put the Bisons on the board, SMSD was struggling to keep up with Elmwood Franklin’s fast pace and was down 10-4 at the end of the first quarter. After a pep talk from the coaches, the Bisons came alive in the second quarter. Michael Norris exploded up and down the court to make some impressive plays. Michael and Kioney worked together on offense while Jonathan Allen, Francis Nguyen, and Dalton Burlingame held tight on defense. The crowd was going wild as the Bisons took back the lead and were up 18-16 at halftime. Julia Bronneberg, Briona Zuppa, and Emma Foster continued to dominate in the second half. The Bisons were passing the ball and showing excellent teamwork to keep the Bisons in the lead. The final score was 30-18, with the Bisons earning their third win of the season!!! Our overall record is 3-4 with only two games left!
Our next game is Wednesday, February 8th at 3:30pm. We will once again be taking on St. Joseph University School in Bosco Gym. Come and watch the action! As always, thank you so much for all of your support. It means so much to our players to see our fans in the stands!

The Grade School Basketball Team had another exciting game against Tapestry yesterday! Our Bisons prepared all week for Tapestry’s tough defense and fast-paced offense. This was the first game our players tried using a man-to-man defense. While we still have some learning to do, it proved to be very successful! The Bisons led the attack with several fast breaks and drives to the basket by Michael Norris and Kioneyshka Alvira-Jurado. We were up 8-7 at the end of the first quarter. Tapestry responded in the second quarter. Although Jonathan Allen and Francis Nguyen grabbed some impressive rebounds under the basket, the Bisons couldn’t match the pace of Tapestry and were down 12-17 at the end of the first half. The Bisons stampeded back in the third quarter. Emma Foster had some aggressive steals to give the Bisons several scoring opportunities. Kioneyshka Alvira-Jurado dribbled right past Tapestry’s defense to put the Bisons back in the lead with a score of 24-23 at the end of the third quarter. Spectators were on the edge of their seats to watch as the final six minutes of the game ticked away. It was neck and neck throughout the quarter, with some impressive ball handling by Michael Norris. In the end, Tapestry won 31-30. However, the score isn’t what is important to us. The heart and determination that shined within each of our players is exactly what we wanted to see. We couldn’t be prouder of our team!
Our next game is Wednesday, January 25th at 3:30pm. We will be taking on St. Joseph’s in Bosco Gym. Please come out and watch us in action!
As always, thank you for all of your support! GO BISONS!!!

The Baby Bisons had a busy week! On Wednesday, we welcomed Tapestry to Bosco Gym for what turned out to be an exciting, fast-paced game. Tapestry’s speed and man-to-man defense presented quite a challenge for our players. However, the Bisons stampeded right back in response. We held tight throughout the game, but couldn’t overcome Tapestry and lost 25-22 at the final buzzer. The following day, we were beyond excited to participate in the I-90 Classic games against Rochester School for the Deaf. Playing in Gallagher Gym in front of a packed audience was quite a thrill for our players, who tried their best to challenge RSD. We played four tough quarters at an excitingly quick pace. Michael Norris and Julia Bronneberg scored some impressive baskets! However, our defense couldn’t match RSD’s strong offense. Though the final score was 26-14, we were proud of how hard the Bisons battled throughout the game. In the fifth quarter, we watched Shannan Green, Abdulwadood Mohammed, Abby Northway, Tyler Phillips, and Cassondra Cook shine as they took the court. Some impressive offensive moves and tough stands on defense had spectators cheering in awe. Each of our players had their ‘moment in the spotlight’ and were all smiling as we shook hands at the end of the match. Despite being rivals on the court, we wanted to show RSD that in the end, we really are friends. Both teams enjoyed an ice cream treat (thank you, Jim Carmody!) and socialized in our cafeteria after the game. It was the perfect way to end our exciting week.
Our next game is Wednesday, January 18th at 3:45pm. We will once again be taking on Tapestry in Bosco Gym. Please come out and support us!

The Baby Bisons were back in action on the basketball court yesterday! Aleyshka Rivera, Shannan Green, Abdulwadood Mohammed, and EmilyLynn Spillman wore a SMSD basketball jersey for the first time. We welcomed Nichols to the Bosco gym to kick off our season. The Bisons took an early lead in the first quarter, with Michael Norris driving to the basket to make the score 4-0. Nichols revved up their offense in the second quarter, taking back the lead and making it 10-6 at the half. The Bisons responded in the 3rd quarter. Francis Nguyen, Michael Norris, and Briona Zuppa scored key points on offense while Jonathan Allen, Emma Foster, and Julia Bronneberg held strong on defense. The score was 14-12 with Nichols in the lead at the end of the third quarter. Spectators were on the edge of their seats as the 4th quarter began. Unfortunately, the Bisons couldn’t match the fast pace of the Nichols offense. The final score was 20-12 at the buzzer. Both teams shook hands as we wrapped up this exciting game. A special thank you to all of our fans who came to watch the game! We are so proud of our Baby Bisons! If you see one of our basketball superstars in the hallway, please congratulate them on a job well done! We will take what we learned from yesterday’s game to prepare for next week.
