As we move into November, the students in the Residential Department have enjoyed numerous Halloween and Fall Festivities. One of the more popular activities was Pumpkin Carving with the Elementary Activity group. With help from staff, our younger residential and day students were able to design their own pumpkins. They showed their creativity with a wide range of scary, funny and unusual faces. Our thanks go to Dan Majeski Nurseries in West Seneca for giving a generous discount on the pumpkins.
Another fun activity involved eating some worms in cups of mud. Everyone enjoyed making this spooky snack. The students made the pudding, added crushed Oreo cookies and a few gummy worms to top it off. Overall everyone had a great time and there were a lot of delicious snacks to eat.
October was a busy month. Besides pumpkin carving and making snacks, there were plenty of other activities to keep the students busy. We had field trips to a Haunted house, our annual Halloween Skating Party and numerous other activities on campus.
St. Mary's School for the Deaf provides a unique, diverse,
and extensive wealth of after school activities.
Under the direction
of
professional staff trained in the recreational, social,
and vocational
areas, students
are provided with group activities designed
to meet
their individual
needs. Students are eligible to begin
participating in the after school
experience while in kindergarten.
From there, a student has the
option
to participate until his or her
graduation. St Mary's works cooperatively
with each student's parents and
local
school district to help facilitate
transportation and ensure participation.
